Heyward Donigan is Rite Aid's president and chief executive officer and serves as Elixir's president and chief executive officer as well.
Before joining Rite Aid in 2019, Donigan was president and chief executive officer of Sapphire Digital, which designs and develops omnichannel platforms that help consumers choose their best fit healthcare providers. In that role, Donigan led Sapphire Digital’s strategy and operations to record growth and consumer engagement. Prior to Sapphire Digital, Donigan was president and chief executive officer of ValueOptions, then the nation’s largest independent behavioral health improvement company, where she drove innovation through disciplined execution and grew company revenues to over $1 billion. Previously, Donigan served as executive vice president & chief marketing officer at Premera Blue Cross, where, she was responsible for driving profitable growth across the individual, small group, mid-market and national account businesses, and helped the company achieve record growth and profits. Earlier in her career, Donigan served as senior vice president of all operations at Cigna Healthcare. She has also held executive roles at General Electric, Empire BCBS and U.S. Healthcare, and previously served on the Board of Directors at several public companies, including Kindred Healthcare.
Donigan holds a master’s of public administration from New York University. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Virginia.
As the company's chief financial officer, Matt Schroeder is responsible for managing Elixir's finances, financial planning and financial reporting. Schroeder joined Rite Aid in 2000 as vice president of financial accounting and was promoted to group vice president of strategy, investor relations and treasurer in 2010. In 2017, Schroeder was promoted to senior vice president, chief accounting officer and treasurer.
Prior to joining the company, Schroeder worked for Arthur Andersen LLP, where he held several positions of increasing responsibility, including audit senior manager and audit manager. He also currently serves as treasurer of The Rite Aid Foundation, as well as a member of its Board of Directors.
Schroeder holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is a CPA.
Paul Gilbert leads the company’s legal department and serves on Rite Aid’s Executive Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team.
Gilbert has deep experience working with healthcare providers, integrated health networks, payors, and related technology solutions, and with boards of directors on corporate governance, reporting, and compliance matters. Prior to Rite Aid, Gilbert was a corporate healthcare partner at Epstein Becker & Green, P.C. Before that, he served for 10 years as the executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate governance officer at LifePoint Health, Inc.
Gilbert holds a juris doctorate from the Vanderbilt University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University.
Kelley Riley is chief medical officer of Elixir. He joined the company in 2016 and oversees clinical operations and quality. He began his clinical career as a practicing physician prior to obtaining his MBA and transitioning into medical management. Riley spent the past decade working for a number of health plans covering Medicare, Medicaid and commercial lines of business. He has extensive experience working with large national companies such as Nissan USA, Dollar General and Bridgestone. He was also the medical director for a national health plan’s fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) department.
Riley completed his undergraduate and graduate medical training at Michigan State University. He received his MBA from Western Michigan University.
Jessica Kazmaier serves as Chief Human Resources Officer for Elixir and Rite Aid, leading all aspects of the human resources strategy including talent management, associate engagement, incentives and labor relations.
Kazmaier joined Rite Aid in 2001 in the associate benefits function and has held various human resources positions of increasing responsibility including vice president, total rewards and group vice president, compensation, benefits and HR corporate services. In this role she focused on total rewards strategy, enterprise-wide human resources policies, tools and compliance, and corporate headquarters talent acquisition and employee relations. Kazmaier also previously served as retirement manager at Harsco Corporation where she managed the companies 401(k) and pension plans.
She earned a dual bachelor’s degree in business administration and psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and her Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans.
Justin Mennen is responsible for all aspects of the company’s information technology operations, strategy and execution. He is focused on delivering a seamless and differentiated customer experience across both Elixir and Rite Aid’s digital and physical touchpoints, while streamlining operations and increasing associate productivity across the company.
Prior to joining Ride Aid, Mennen led technology organizations across several industries, most notably as CompuCom’s chief digital officer and chief information officer, as the vice president of enterprise architecture and technology innovation for Estée Lauder Companies, and as the regional chief information officer for Dell Asia Pacific and Japan. Mennen brings a wealth of knowledge with two decades of experience leveraging technology to create competitive business advantages and value, with extensive expertise leading digital technology transformation.
Mennen holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Kansas.
Susan Thomas brings more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry, much of it in the pharmacy benefits segment, to Elixir. In her role, Thomas leads the Elixir sales and account management teams across all market segments.
Prior to joining Elixir in 2019, Thomas served as vice president/general manager for health plans at OptumRx, vice president of client management for FutureScripts at OptumRx, vice president of account management in the employer group division at Catamaran and vice president of client services at Catalyst Rx.
Thomas holds an MBA from the University of Virginia, Darden School of Business and is a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing also from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Tom Warburton is responsible for the development and execution of marketing strategies and the member experience for Elixir. He brings nearly 20 years of managed care and technology marketing and communications experience to the role.
Prior to joining the Elixir team, Warburton served as senior vice president of marketing and communications at Beacon Health Options, where he managed corporate marketing communications and proposal development initiatives.
Warburton earned his bachelor’s degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia.
